The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a individual motive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.
